Why Borussia Dortmund suspended Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for Champions League match
There was a lot of confusion just minutes before Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League after news broke that the German side’s star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would not be involved.
The reason? Well, initially no one was really sure but it immediately prompted fresh transfer speculation about his future at the club.
And manager Thomas Tuchel’s explanation didn’t really shed any more light on the matter but he did confirm the Gabon international had indeed missed out through a club suspension.
“It was very difficult to do without him,” Tuchel said after the game.
“But it was that I had no choice. The decision was made yesterday [Tuesday] afternoon. In the next game, he will be back.
“But, internal reasons means internal. I do not account for speculation.”
Unfortunately for the Dortmund boss, it hasn’t taken long for those ‘internal reasons’ to be leaked. It has now been revealed why Aubameyang was forced to watch his team from the stands and was inadvertently mocked for wearing an outfit not too dissimilar from Inspector Gadget (see below).
According to The Mirror, the 27-year-old took an unsanctioned trip to Milan on Monday, just two days before Dortmund’s crunch European tie against Sporting.
