Many Injured As Gangs Clash In Mushin
There was pandemonium in Idi-Oro in the Mushin axis of Lagos yesterday, October 30,2016, with residents scampering for safety following gang violence in the area. Amebosquare learnt that residents who were running for safety survived varying degrees of injuries during the process.
According to a resident, violence erupted in the community few days ago with the gangs shooting sporadically in the air. The shootings we gathered continued for a while before the gangs retreated to their various hideouts.
“The area was unsettled due to the shootings that started on Thursday. Though it has become a regular occurrence, the shootings continued till Sunday and people in the area became restless. The gangs will shoot in broad daylight and stop at a point,” the resident who craved anonymity told Amebosquare.
Another resident who spoke to Amebosquare revealed that the shootings usually occur whenever there is a supremacy battle between gangs in the area. “Shooting in Idi-Oro is becoming a normal thing because the guys display their guns in broad daylight like they were flaunting riches. Most times, the reason for the shootings is unknown to residents and when they settle the rift, the shooting also stops,” he said.
When asked if the shootings are related to cult activities, the source said, “Gang violence in Mushin is akin to New York, Brooklyn or other popular cities of the world. It is usually between boys from different areas in Mushin who want to gain control of a particular spot and most times, they know their targets.”
The source however urged the State Commissioner of Police and other relevant security agencies to find a holistic solution to violence across the State to ensure safety of lives and properties.
